DAY 2: 12-Days of Dennis Kucinich & His Plan to End the War (ahem)

Important: Each point is taken directly from http://kucinich.us/iraqplan and my own little commentary will follow it. Each day, I'll present another point in his HR1234:

HR 1234 will restore Iraq's sovereignty over its oil, control its food and energy prices, and protect its financial integrity by ensuring Iraq will not be the target of World Bank and IMF structural adjustment policies.

2. US announces that it will use existing funds to bring the troops and necessary equipment home. Congress appropriated $70 billion in bridge funds on October 1st for the war. Money from this and other DOD accounts can be used to fund the troops in the field over the next few months, and to pay for the cost of the return of the troops, (which has been estimated at between $5 and $7 billion dollars) while a political settlement is being negotiated and preparations are made for a transition to an international security and peacekeeping force.

This almost reads like its going to happen or is happening today. I think that's why it has drawn my attention so- almost like by publishing this extensive outline of a 12-step plan for ending this insanity, he's already created it. Its the tense in which he writes. He isn't saying that we "should" do this and "should" do that. He is saying that in his world, this IS how it will be. I like that attitude a hell of a lot better than someone saying, "Now you SHOULD do this and you SHOULD do that." Who in their right mind is ever receptive to that type of demand or statement? I know as a kid, hearing that "should" word sure did shudder me. And ultimately instilled a sense of resentment and resistance.

I have spent quite some time on Dennis' site and have realized just what a rare find, at least in politics, he is. Perhaps he is the wolf in sheep's clothing or perhaps a figment of all our imaginations-- but the truth is, he IS saying things that too many people before him and AROUND him now in Congress, are afraid to say and well, don't seem to really think too much about. After all, it is far easier to mimic the cry of the leader than to stand on your own two feet and denounce an oppressor and dictator. That, my friends, is NOT a true hero.
